Swarnim Waglé

Chair, Institute for Integrated Development, and Former Vice Chair, Planning Commission, Government of Nepal

Dr Waglé is the Chairman of the Institute for Integrated Development and the former Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) of the Government of Nepal. He served as Member of NPC twice between 2014 and 2017, and advised on the formulation of national policies and strategies. In the aftermath of the severe Nepal earthquake in 2015, Dr. Waglé co-led the Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) project and helped garner billions of dollars in pledges. He also led Nepal’s ministerial delegation to the landmark Third UN Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa. Dr. Waglé has worked as an international development professional for more than 15 years on policy assignments in over 20 countries, most recently as senior economist at the World Bank in Washington, DC. He holds a PhD in economics from the Australian National University, an MPA in international development (MPA/ID) from Harvard University, and a BSc (econ) from the London School of Economics.
